Overseas: 'We can't ignore the over-50s market'

GATED communities with good infrastructure and medical facilities are set to become ever-more popular with older Irish overseas investors, according to Noreen Hynes, director of Aquarius Properties, who is running an overseas property exhibition in Dublin today.

"We can't ignore the over50s market, " says Hynes. "In Britain, 9.6 million people are over 65 and this should have a positive impact on the overseas property market in years to come, " she adds.

Anyone of any age looking for a safe bet abroad should check out the Aquarius Properties Overseas Property Exhibition.

According to Hynes, it's not just about buying the property. "People want to know who will manage and rent the property for them, how they can finance it, and will they have a market for it if they want to sell it on in a few years."

Today's exhibition will offer information on the best locations to buy in terms of tax and financing. According to Hynes, Bulgaria and Turkey are very popular with Irish buyers, while new destinations like Brazil and Mexico are beginning to become attractive. But for lifestyle properties, Spain is still as popular as ever.

The main factors impacting on overseas property purchase include price, access, services , potential for capital appreciation, infrastructure and availability of finance, say the experts.

Aquarius Properties Overseas Property Exhibition is on today from 11am to 6pm at the Stillorgan Park Hotel, Dublin.
