COONAGH Cross shopping centre in Limerick has got the go ahead from An Bord Pleanala. The announcement, made late last week, was welcomed not only by builders Chieftain Construction, but by locals, as the 200m centre is expected to create 950 new jobs, resulting in 22m in wages going into the area.
The 21,764sq m (234,180sq ft) centre will incorporate retail, leisure and entertainment facilities and is due to open in late 2007.
The site is on 39 acres at Clondrinagh, Clonaconane on the Ennis Road outside Limerick city. Tesco will be the anchor tenant, and will have a 45,149sq m (48,600sq ft) supermarket on-site.
Also planned is a large department store, cinema and family centre.
Ger O'Rourke, managing director of Chieftain Construction said: "We are bringing a mix of major Irish and international retail brands to Limerick, which will draw significant business to the city."
CBRE is handling all enquiries for the centre.
