DISGRACED Judge Brian Curtin, who faces allegations that he was found with child pornography on his computer, is involved in a music school attended by children.
The Sunday Tribune has learned that Judge Curtin is still registered as a director of the Kerry School of Music in Tralee, even though the Oireachtas is still investigating claims made against him.
According to Companies Registration Office records, Judge Curtin was appointed company secretary of the school on 5 April 2000. There is no record that he has retired from the board of directors.
Several politicians have called on Curtin to resign as director of the school, which provides music, drama and ballet classes for children in addition to its adult classes.
Martin Ferris, Sinn Fein TD for Kerry North, said: "I think that it would be beneficial for Judge Curtin to step aside until these allegations have been dealt with.
"The news that he is still a director of the school will be particularly worrying for parents who send their children to the School of Music, " he said.
"I would assume the fact that he has been acquitted would make it hard for the school to force him to step down so he should do it himself."
Labour councillor Terry O'Brien added: "Judge Brian Curtin should be asked to step aside until the investigation carried out by the members of the Dail is completed."
Judge Curtin's computer has been in the possession of the Garda Siochana since May 2002. He pleaded not guilty to the possession of child pornography when his case opened in the Circuit Court in April 2004.
He was later acquitted after it emerged the warrant under which the computer had been seized was out of date. An Oireachtas Committee is now investigating Judge Curtin's suitability for office.
Aidan O'Carroll, artisitic director of the school said: "We do not wish to make any comment."
