GIRL CRITICAL AFTER BEING HIT BY CAR

A 16-YEAR-OLD girl remained in a critical condition in hospital yesterday after being struck by a car in Fairview, Dublin, on Friday night. The girl was being treated in intensive care at Beaumont Hospital after being transferred from the Mater.

MAN CHARGED OVER DUBLIN BROTHEL

A 42-YEAR-OLDman appeared at Dublin district court yesterday charged with assisting with the management of a brothel in an apartment at Bachelor's Walk between September and October 2005. Gardai arrested Martin Morgan, with an address in London, yesterday morning and found 40,000 in the car he was travelling in.

EXTRA WARDERS IN MOUNTJOY AFTER RIOT

EXTRA prison officers have been drafted in to the women's prison at Mountjoy in Dublin after a riot last week. Forty prisoners rioted and injured several jail staff after officers intercepted a 'drug drop' by the walls of the prison yard.

CHAPTER ONE NAMED TOP RESTAURANT

CHAPTER One has been named Ireland's best restaurant by the Restaurants' Association of Ireland. The nominees were assessed by a panel of critics and catering professionals.

KING'S INNS PAIR WIN DEBATING AWARD

KING'S Inns students Barry Glynn and Mark Murphy have won the coveted John Smith Memorial Mace for 2006.

Known as the most prestigious student debating event in the world, former winners include former British Liberal Party leader Charles Kennedy and Professor Anthony Clare.

King's Inns won the competition once before, in 1986.

CALL FOR RUNNERS IN DUBLIN MARATHON

IRELAND AM presenter Aidan Cooney is looking for participants to take part in this year's Dublin Marathon to raise money for Temple Street Children's Hospital. The team is hoping to get 250 participants to raise money for a CT scanner.
