Goodbody rates England a 'sell'
Niall Brady

GOODBODY Stockbrokers has crossed the line from stock picks to football predictions with a coded message to punters last week to take their money off England's chances in the World Cup. The team we love to hate may have made it to the final 16 but analyst Joe Gill does not rate their chances of progressing much further.

He has been assessing the impact of World Cup fever on the travel trade, especially budget airlines. The package holiday trade is blaming the tournament for lacklustre booking as fans stay at home on their couches. Football widows include MyTravel, which trades as Panorama and Direct Holidays in Ireland, and First Choice, owner of Falcon and JWT. But Gill believes the pain will be short-lived.

"MyTravel and First Choice expect a rebound in volume once England ends its World Cup campaign so this could be a short story."
