Muse on the merits of a Monkstown supermodel
Valerie Shanley

MEWS HOUSES have an image of being rather small in stature, overshadowed by neighbouring and usually grander properties. Here is one with 'supermodel' height and elegance in an interior spanning some 11 sq m (1,200 sq ft) of floor space, with feature timber beamed ceilings drawing the eye upwards.

Dumela Mews, just off the Monkstown Road, Co Dublin, has a definitive, cut-stone facade, behind which is a family home brimming with character. To the rear is a sheltered, fully landscaped garden while to the front is parking space (for three cars), all within a short distance of both Monkstown and Blackrock villages, as well as a stroll from the Dart.

Entrance is through the tiled porch and into the main reception hall, which extends into a second hall with good cloakroom space. The hallway is generously sized, as are the rooms leading off.

The first of these is the living room, where the high, period timber ceiling mentioned is an undoubted feature. This room also has a polished hardwood floor, exposed brick fireplace with solid fuel burner, and fitted bookshelves.

The large kitchen-cumdining room has Shakerstyle presses in warm maple, with a range of integrated appliances, timber worktops and draining boards, and a Belfast sink.

Upstairs are three bedrooms, the largest of which has fitted pine wardrobes with great storage space. A door leads to the en-suitewith electric shower. Bedrooms two and three (one double and one single) interconnect.

The double has good wardrobe space and a feature window overlooking the garden. An antique bath takes pride of place in the main bathroom, which is fully tiled and has a Velux skylight. The wc is separate.

Outside, to the front, is the parking space on the wide private lane. The rear garden is as inviting as the house itself, with both a gravelled area and a terrace paved in Indian sandstone.

Framing it all are wellstocked, mature flowerbeds and shrubs, plus a water feature.

Price: AMV 1.1m at auction on 5 July Agent: Lisney 01 - 214 5151
