CADBURY Ireland continued to monitor the recall of 20,000 Cadbury chocolate bars last night, amid fears that they contained traces of salmonella.
The 250g Cadbury Dairy Milk Turkish and the 250g Cadbury Dairy Milk Caramel were both taken off Irish shelves on Friday "as a precautionary measure" after a problem with the chocolate was identified in Britain. One million bars were withdrawn from shops in the UK.
A company spokeswoman yesterday gave assurances that there was "no likelihood of risk to Irish consumers", and said that the freephone number, 1800-678708, set up to help worried customers had not yet received any calls.
Cadbury also asked customers who may have bought or received Cadbury products from Britain or Northern Ireland to return them to Cadbury headquarters in Coolock, Dublin.
The spokeswoman said the company had identified the source of the problem, and had rectified it. The contamination was caused by a faulty pipe at a Cadbury plant in Herefordshire.
