RACING today is at Gowran Park and Down Royal, with the Coolmore Stud Ulster Oaks and the Club Tonic Galway Plate Trial sharing top billing at the latter venue.
John Oxx sends the Aga Khan's filly Sharatila on the long journey north, and is fancied in the Ulster Oaks.
Sharatila disappointed on her seasonal reappearance at Leopardstown last month, but she had useful form to her credit as a juvenile, and will undoubtedly improve from the run. The Johnny Murtagh-ridden Jalmira, together with the Pat Morristrained Aunty Euro, are nominated to chase her home.
Jalmira's stable-companion Bravery will have his share of supporters in the Club Tonic Galway Plate Trial, but Charlie Swan's seven-year-old is lightly-raced over fences, and preference is for the more experienced campaigner Jupiter Hollow.
Hume Castle and City Hall are others expected to be thereabout at the finish.
Meanwhile, at Gowran Park, the Dermot Weldtrained Bluegrass Hill need only reproduce the promise he showed when fourth on his Leopardstown debut to beat some well-bred newcomers in the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF 2-Y-O Maiden.
Arosa holds most appeal in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF (Fillies) Maiden. She had an encouraging first run at Navan last October under her belt, and that experience will count in her favour today.
The Bulmers Cup Handicap is the most valuable race on the card, and the vote in this two mile event goes to Carlesimo, with Fran Berry in the saddle. Noel Meade's charge should be capable of following up here.
The Jim Bolger-trained Mrs Gillow won the race last year, and is sure to go close, along with Dermot Weld's Le Leopard.
