Bene"t of Retreat shown in Kenmare's luxury apartments
June Edwards

WITH Kenmare in Kerry voted one of the top 10 locations in the world to retire to, according to Forbesmagazine, it's easy to see why the Brennan family, owners of the Park Hotel, are confident that the Retreats, a small exclusive scheme of residences which they've developed on the grounds of the hotel, should sell easily.

Not for the faint-hearted, prices for these two-bed apartments range in price from 1.4 to 2m.

But with two homes sold even prior to the official launch, and no shortage of interest from both the domestic and American markets, the Brennan family obviously believe there's a definite market for homes of such a high calibre.

To date, most of the interest and enquiries have come from regular hotel guests looking for a second home or retirement pad in an exclusive setting. As part of the buying agreement, these homes cannot be rented out or listed with any rental agency.

Being marketed as lifestyle residences, the Retreats are undoubtedly the ultimate in luxury apartment living, and as such benefit from all the fivestar facilities of the hotel including use of the SAMAS spa, and free access to the fitness suite and underground lap-pool built into the limestone.

Designed by Opermann architects, the 18 apartments in the development are laid out in a three-storey building.

And if you've got the means to buy here you can expect to be well looked after, with housekeeping and linen service, 24-hour concierge, inhome dining, personal shopping and delivery, laundry and dry-cleaning, chauffeur service and event-planning just some of what's on offer to residents.

And that's just for starters.

With a floor area of 153sq m (650sq ft) these two-bed apartments are very spacious and comprise an entrance hall, large, bright open-plan kitchen, diningroom and livingroom, two double bedrooms both with en-suite bathrooms, 1,000bottle wine storage, and lifestyle room which owners can choose to have fitted out as a four-seater screening room, music room or library.

Only two homes share each landing, and all units have impressive double doors opening into large hallways. Additionally, all homes have fireplaces in the livingroom, recessed lighting throughout and other top-of-the-range features like SieMatic kitchens with Gaggenau appliances, central satellite TV, fitted panic button and direct-line-to-hotel reception, perimeter trenchheating to all windows, and hardwood flooring. Hallways and bathrooms come with stone flooring and underfloor heating, while underground parking and basement storage can be accessed via a lift.

Interiors are by London design house, Linley, who offer buyers a choice of a full or partial fit-out.

Laid out over three floors, top-storey homes come with roof gardens, while groundfloor homes have private patios and middle-floor units have terraces off the living area.
