Two-year-old dies after being found in pond
A TWO-YEAR-OLD boy has died after he was found floating in a pond while on holiday at a caravan park in Youghal, Co Cork. The toddler, who is believed to have been trying to retrieve a toy from the pond, was rushed to Cork University Hospital yesterday afternoon but efforts to resuscitate him failed.
Three in custody after gardai foil drugs deal
THREE men remained in custody yesterday after gardai foiled what is believed to be a major drugs deal in Dublin. Two kilos of cocaine, with a street value of 160,000, and over 40,000 in cash were recovered during the operation at Blanchardstown shopping centre on Friday evening.
PSNI arrest man in connection with stabbing
A 30-YEAR-OLDman was arrested in Co Antrim yesterday in connection with the stabbing of a 25-year-old man in Ballymena. The victim suffered wounds to his chest and hand in the attack on Larne Road, Ballymena, shortly before 6am yesterday morning.
The PSNI said the attack was not believed to be motivated by sectarianism.
Man questioned after Portlaoise drugs swoop
ONE man in his 20s was being questioned by police in Portlaoise, Co Laois, yesterday after 50,000 worth of drugs were found in a car in Portlaoise on Friday.
The man was arrested and a quantity of ecstasy tablets and cocaine were recovered as part of a planned operation by gardai.
Gardai probe death of man in Cobh
GARDAI were yesterday continuing investigations into the death of a man in his 20s in Cobh on Friday night.
The incident ocurred when the car he was driving plunged into Deep Water Quay. His brother, who was also in the car, was rescued.
The deceased, Patrick Mahony from Cobh, was taken to Cork University Hospital, where a post mortem was carried out yesterday.
Woman held up at gunpoint in Youghal robbery
GARDAI were appealing for information yesterday after a woman driver was held up at gunpoint in an armed robbery in Youghal, Co Cork.
Three men wearing balaclavas, one armed with a gun, stopped the woman who was collecting from a Credit Union shortly before 1pm yesterday on the Ardmore Road.
They were driving a stolen Suzuki Jeep.
Parents prepare to bring body of son home
THE parents of a 17-yearold Irish boy who was killed in a jet-ski accident while on a family holiday in Bulgaria are preparing to bring his body home.
The teenager was killed after his jet ski collided with another in the Golden Sands resort on Friday afternoon.
He was on holiday with his parents and 15-yearold brother.
