Dalkey 'bout a dream home in south Dublin's most sought-after village
Valerie Shanley

A DALKEY address will always command a high price, but Willow Brook comes with all of those attributes that have made properties in this south Co Dublin village so sought-after.

Period character, tasteful renovation . . . including a Chalon kitchen . . . plus coastal walks and all that the quaint village has to offer ensure this family residence at No 56 Ulverton Road ticks all the boxes on the 'dreamhome' list.

Detached and double-fronted, Willow Brook has some 230sq m (2,479sq ft) of floor space laid out in generously proportioned rooms, including a sun room with a pitched glass roof which opens into mature and equally spacious gardens.

The entrance hall sets the tone for the rest of the house, with dado and picture rails on the high walls and a polished timber floor. An elegant, formal livingcum-diningroom leads off from here, and has a box bay window and cast-iron fireplace. Sliding wooden doors open to the sun room, which is tiled in natural Italian ceramic over underfloor heating.

Next is the heart of the house, the big, communal, country-style kitchen, also with Italian floor tiles and underfloor heating, and incorporating a Rangemaster cooker, large American fridge freezer and Belfast sink in the design. Adjacent to the kitchen is the fully fitted utility with access to the garden. A guest cloakroom and period style study, complete with fitted bookcase and desk, complete the rooms at entrance level.

On the first floor is a generously sized landing, bright courtesy of the skylight. The master bedroom again has the high ceiling, dado and picture rails characteristic of a grand, period property, while also benefitting from a modern en-suite and a range of built-in wardrobes and vanity unit. The four remaining bedrooms have similar period character, including two which have box bay windows. A jacuzzi bath is a feature of the tiled bathroom.

Outside, the gardens are as fine as the house. To the front is a railed garden incorporating both off street car parking space and gravelled beds bordered by seasonal plants. The large rear garden, with side access and also approached through the sun room, is mainly in lawn with sandstone paving and an array of mature shrubs, bamboo and a palm tree.

An old-fashioned gazebo complete the seaside villa style of this impressive home.
