Rock star in salubrious Dublin 18
Valerie Shanley

A SUBSTANTIAL family home in a mature residential area of the capital will always have great appeal, particularly one with rather special sea views and in walking distance of good amenities. While this semi-detached, four-bed at No 98 Foxrock Park, Foxrock, Dublin 18, will satisfy those looking for an address with cachet, it will also arouse the curiosity of buyers who don't judge a book by its cover . . . or a house by its exterior. For beyond the fairly ordinary facade lies an interior bursting with character. New owners may want to modernise the decor, but the 144sq ft (1,560sq ft) of space is cosy and comfortable, with mellow painted walls and a mix of soft wool carpet and solid hardwood flooring underfoot.

Accommodation opens through a sliding glass door in the entrance porch and on into the reception hall. A solid beech floor and stained, leaded-glass in the front door defines this spacious area which also has a small guest cloakroom leading off. Both the elegant diningroom, with solid cherrywood floor, and the livingroom with sandstone surround fireplace, have attractive ceiling coving and cream radiator covers, while the double doors between each can be left open for entertaining on a grander scale.

There is also a more informal room designated as a family space for watching TV. The kitchen-cum-breakfast room is fitted with solid maple cupboards and worktops, a Belfast sink and tiled splashback. A pitched wooden ceiling is an attractive feature. Maple cupboards are also fitted in the utility room, which is plumbed for laundry appliances. From here, the door leads to the back garden . . . east-facing and with a deck area for al-fresco dining.

Upstairs are four bedrooms, one of which is particularly large, with sea views and a vanity unit with washhand basin. The main bathroom has both a bath and shower and is fully tiled.

To the front of the property is a drive and garden with ample parking for three cars.

Nearby are colleges such as Loreto, Holly Park and the French school, plus a number of shopping centres including Dundrum Town Centre. There is also a host of activities on the doorstep, particularly golf and tennis . . . just the thing for these warm summer evenings.
