Investors suddenly talking Tu r k e y
Valerie Shanley

OVERSEAS property pricewise, Turkey is now something round what Spain was nine years ago in terms of lucrative investment. That's according to Jack Hamilton, managing director of Parador Properties, who adds that Irish investors can buy several beach apartments in Turkey for less than a home in Dublin.

Parador has just opened offices in Bodrum and in the first three months of this year, sold over 35m worth of property.

An example of what's on offer includes two-bed apartments overlooking the sea in either Bodrum or Didim for 55,000, while three-bed villas start from 110,000. The majority of buyers, until recently, have been from the UK, but requests here for inspection tours of Turkey have shot up in the last couple of months, says Hamilton.

"What can you buy in Ireland for 60,000 or 70,000?

Very little. As for the Dublin market, with its Manhattantype prices, investors can buy five or six apartments in a resort close to the beach for little more than 250,000, which would barely cover the cost of one home in the many parts of the capital."
