THREE medical staff have been placed on leave from the state-run Cork hospital where an elderly woman choked to death in the straps of a therapeutic chair, the Sunday Tribune has learned.
Two nurses and one care worker at Heatherside hospital near Buttevant have been told to remain off-duty indefinitely, on full pay, while the HSE conducts an inquiry into the death last month of Hannah Comber (71). The separate HSE and garda probes into her death will both focus on why a report given to gardai who initially attended the scene failed to accurately outline how she died. When it was discovered the patient had choked to death, she was removed from the chair, washed, and placed in fresh clothing before gardai arrived.
