BIG Brother's Irish contestant 'Spiral' may have been evicted from the house this weekend, but his hopes of a music career have received a major boost. After spending three weeks entertaining his housemates with outbursts of rhyming, rapping, and chanting, the Dubliner's single 'Finglas' will be available to buy in music stores countrywide from next Friday.
Due to popular demand, RMG Chart Entertainment is putting the single, which also features a less foul-mouthed radio version and an instrumental version of the track, on general release. It will be available on CD and for digital download.
"It's safe to say there will be a few thousand copies going out to the shops, but it's hard to know exactly how many because there will be more ordered over the course of next week, " said RMG label manager Seamus Carroll. "In the UK, Big Brother fans will hopefully be able to digitally download the track at the same time it becomes available here."
Spiral, a 22-year-old DJ whose real name is Glen Coroner, spent his time in the Big Brother house coming up with rhymes based on the events of the day. 'Finglas' is also based on actual happenings, telling the story of young kids growing up in the Dublin village and the issues they face, such as drink, drugs, and trouble with the police. Until now, the rap single has only been available to buy from the Music Box store in Finglas, where it has been a big hit since it was first released last March.
"Spiral's single sold 350 copies on its first day in the store earlier on in the year, " said the store's owner, Declan Moloney. "There's definitely a demand for it and it's been flying off the shelves.
It reached No 38 in the Irish charts when he released it first. Now he's been on Big Brother, people are really curious to hear it."
