Irish tourists home after long delay in Barcelona

MORE than 200 Irish holidaymakers were due to fly home yesterday after being stranded overnight in Spain due to an industrial dispute at El Prat airport in Barcelona. After an unexpected extra night's stay in Barcelona, passengers were able to make their way back to Dublin on an Aer Lingus flight yesterday. Passengers with out-of-pocket expenses can lodge a claim, said an Aer Lingus spokesman.

Elderly woman dies after Roscommon crash

AN 83-year-old woman has died from her injuries following a car crash in Co Roscommon on Friday morning. Josephine Grimes, from Killaloe, Co Clare, was badly injured when the car she was driving hit a telegraph pole in Knockcroghery. She was taken to Roscommon hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Meanwhile, the man killed in Friday's crash between two lorries in Co Westmeath has been named. Sean Egenton (66), from Oldcastle, Co Meath, died in the accident in Crookedwood near Mullingar.

The 59-year-old woman killed in an accident near Batterstown, Co Meath, on Thursday has been named as Marie Grimes from Kildalkey, Co Meath.

Middle East supporters march in Dubin

A DEMONSTRATION was held in Dublin yesterday over the continuing escalation of the situation in the Middle East. The Hands Off Lebanon and Freedom For Palestine protest began outside the Garden of Remembrance, and was organised by the Irish AntiWar Movement, the Lebanese community in Ireland, and Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

Up to 600 Poles are homeless in Dublin

POLISH embassy officials in Dublin have estimated that up to 600 Polish people are homeless in the Irish capital.

The Polish government hopes to set up an emergency fund to address the problem. Homeless service providers have raised concerns over the welfare of Polish workers unable to find employment or accommodation in Dublin.

Labour TD leads protest against A&E crisis

A PROTEST highlighting the ongoing crisis in Accident & Emergency units was held yesterday outside the Mater Hospital in Dublin. Labour Party TD Joe Costello, who led the rally, has been holding the weekly protests for more than three years. "There were 15 people on trolleys in the Mater earlier this week . . .

so much for Mary Harney treating this as a national emergency, " he said.
