WATERFORD Crystal saw US sales of its chinaware exceed that of Wedgwood in the quarter to May. It is the first time the crystal division, which is headed by John Foley, has ever sold more chinaware than Wedgwood.
Foley said last week that the crystal division's sales were not at the expense of Wedgwood's. Foley is attempting to revitalise the crystal arm as the company tries to reverse significant losses.
New designers coming on board with Waterford include Marc Jacobs, whose products will hit US shelves early next year. Foley said he hopes that Jacobs' designs will also help Waterford boost sales in Japan, where the designer is a well-recognised name.
