THERE seems to be no stopping the men and women of Nenagh as they won the AllIreland Mixed Foursomes in 2003 and have just reemerged from Munster for another title challenge.
In the provincial semi-final at Dooks, they brushed the home team aside before demolishing a hapless Fermoy in a short-lived final which saw three matches being won on the 12th, 13th and 14th greens!
It is safe to suggest that Nenagh are built around their top two pairings. Paddy Kennedy . . . known fondly as the little man with a big game . . . and Winnie Ryan have been proving invincible as have the sister and brother partnership of Marie Scroope and Jim Gleeson.
For a time at Dooks, it looked as if there might be a major problem as Nenagh had beaten the home club and waited two and a half hours in the clubhouse before Fermoy finally overcame Tramore in the second semifinal after a six-hour battle.
This led to the possibility there might not be sufficient daylight to get the final finished so Munster Branch chairman Billy Murphy had to issue a stern warning that slow play would not be tolerated and that he was determined the match would conclude without spotlights or night-vision goggles.
Murphy need not have worried as Nenagh's two top teams won 7/6 and 6/5.
Onwards, then, to the All Ireland finals at Clandeboye on 29 September against Ballinasloe. The westerners have been warned.
