IRISH golf has never before seen a scoring spree such as that which took place at Killarney during the recent Irish Ryder Cup Challenge.
The famed course hardly put up a fight as the field of professional hopefuls produced three 62s, ten 63s, twelve 64s, twenty-three 65s and thirty-three 66s.
Two players hit 64s but failed to make the cut, which fell at two-under-par 138 on a course measuring 6,742-yards but almost bereft of rough after weeks of drought. Tournament winner John Wade of Australia had rounds of 69, 64, 65 and 63.
This was astoundingly unexpected low scoring from a field composed entirely of aspirants to places on the European Tour. It can only be imagined what a full strength field might have scored.
