Tripping the light fantastic
Valerie Shanley

NATURAL light beams into this modern, 1970s designed, Co Wicklow home from a range of individual features.

There's the porthole window in the kitchen, Velux skylights overhead, the glass built sunroom, and even an internal feature window in the dining area overlooking the family room. At Dun Aengus, Kilgarron Hill in the lovely village of Enniskerry, the abundance of light is matched by equally generous accommodation, all 214 sq m (2,300 sq ft) of it, including five bedrooms.

A big attraction here is the proximity to the village, just 100 yards away, and with all of the charming shops and home baking cafes that Enniskerry has to offer. This is a property that will not only be of interest to Dubliners hoping for a move to Wicklow, but also to buyers looking for a gentler pace of life.

The house is well set back from the road, behind electronic gates which open onto recently landscaped gardens where the hydrangeas are currently in bloom, and on towards the smart new patio to the rear - which is also wired for external speakers and now a great spot of bringing the party outdoors. Back indoors, just some of the special features include wood panelled ceilings throughout, a wholly refurbished kitchen with all new appliances, and brand new bathroom complete with a large 16-jet Whirlpool bath in the main bathroom and Aqualisa power shower in the ensuite.

Accommodation opens from the reception hall with feature glass panelled front door. The living room has a stone-built fireplace with double doors opening into the sunroom. This room, in turn has a door out to the front garden.

The kitchen cum dining room is the heart of the house, with extensive units, integrated appliances, and the entire cooking and sink areas tiled from worktop to ceiling. Built-in seating is a feature of the family room, which also has an open fire with granite hearth and surround. Double doors open onto the patio from here. A utility room with good storage space, plus a guest cloakroom, complete the rooms at ground floor.

A large feature window lights the stairs up to the first floor landing, while off this are four bedrooms, one en-suite and the generously sized bathroom. The fifth bedroom is currently in use as a home office.
