CAPE'S QUICK GETAWAY MAKES DIFFERENCE

Cape Royal made the most of a lightning-quick start to take the £30,000 Betfred Be Friendly Handicap at Haydock Park yesterday.

Conditions were extremely testing for the five-furlong dash but Jamie Spencer soon had Cape Royal three lengths clear of the field.

The 13-2 shot's stride began to shorten close home but Milton Bradley's charge had enough in reserve to hold on by a neck from Kenmore.

Cape Royal could now be aimed at the Ladbrokes Portland Handicap at York next Saturday.

"We'll enter him and have a look, " said Bradley. "He was entitled to win one of these races, He's been second quite a few times in £30,000 races.

Jamie got them at it before they wanted to be on the soft ground. He said he came out like a rocket and travelled through the bad ground really well. He said he didn't see any point taking a pull."
