The education spotlight has moved from the points race to adult education programmes, and directors of adult education in Community and Comprehensive schools have been preparing a variety of courses over the summer months for the new term.
These directors are members of NACED (The National Association of Adult and Community Education Directors).
Founded in 1974, the mission of NACED is to contribute to the advancement of Adult and Community education. There are 50 registered NACED schools around the country offering very attractive adult education programmes.
For example, a number of NACED schools will be offering a driver education course, with the Steer Clear Driver Education programme of particular interest. The NACED network of schools has also been invited by the National College of Ireland to deliver computer skills courses targeted at people in employment who have limited opportunity for job advancement because of poor IT skills.
The three adult education guides have been on the shop bookshelves since July, and now each school is distributing brochures with all the details of the classes on offer. A number of enrolment sessions are organised in the schools for early September and classes generally begin in the third week of the month.
