CLARE Co Council announced plans last week to open up over 100 acres of land for residential and commercial development in Shannon, Co Clare.
The announcement came on the second anniversary of Shannon Development's transfer of responsibilities for Shannon town to Clare Co Council.
Already tenders for the building of a southern primary road in the Tullyvarraga area of the town are being sought, with construction of the multimillion euro road network project due to start this November.
According to Gerard Dollard, Director of Service and Shannon Town Manager, the first phase of the project involves a 4m investment from Clare Co Council's own resources.
"It will open up new development opportunities on over 100 acres of land in one of Ireland's fastest growing towns, " says Dollard.
Phase one of the new road network will link the road near St Caiman's school with Sli na Mara road, and construction will take place on a segment of land adjoining Clare Co Council's 'Cul na Greine' estate, which is just one of several projects carried out by the co council since taking responsibility for Shannon Town two years ago.
