Wigan twice come from behind thanks to Scharner
Tony Campbell Goodison Park

FA PREMIERSHIP
EVERTON 2
WIGAN 2

PAUL SCHARNER scored two goals to help Wigan come from behind twice to earn a battling point at Everton.

With all the goals coming in the second half, the main moment of note in the first was a row that almost threatened to spill over when Arjen De Zeeuw and Chris Kirkland reacted angrily to a Tim Cahill challenge, leading to bookings for both Wigan players.

Four minutes after the break the deadline was finally broken, inevitably, by Andrew Johnson. He hammered home his fifth of the season from close range. Paul Scharner's header put Wigan level, but James Beattie edged Everton ahead again from the spot in the 66th minute after Gary Teale fouled Leon Osman. But Wigan were quickly on terms again thanks to a sweeping Scharner finish.

Paul Jewell's side held out for the remainder and almost won it when Andreas Johansson forced a save from Tim Howard late on.
