Good for a laugh Bertie; pity it's not funny
From Marian O'Mullane

THERE'S no need to have a rant and waste space in your columns to deride Bertie's comments regarding his sudden and timely realisation that perhaps we have become too "materialistic" in this country. Was that "tongue in cheek" Bertie or "WAS THAT TONGUE IN CHEEK" BERTIE?

PR people, who initiated this stunt for sure, boy did you get that wrong?

Let me see now, who was the most materialistic person in this country? Do readers need a couple of clues? This person died recently. What was the name of those shirts again and what was the name of that restaurant he loved?

Who fed his materialism with blank cheques?

God, I've forgotten but maybe Bertie can tell us and then let's talk again.

Mind you, our Bert is always good for a laugh isn't he? Pity it's not funny anymore! Hands up who wants to be a sucker for another five years?

Marian O'Mullane, Pampas Grove, The Rise, Bishopstown, Cork.
