STRANGE piece in your paper (Review, 3 September) on the lack of support for Irish soccer . . . from a newspaper which, apart from a tiny (and usually inaccurate) league table, ignores the sport almost totally. Coverage of the 'Man' Utds, Liverpools etc, takes up most of your sports pages, together with rugger and GAA when in season.
I know we have a reputation (sometimes deserved) up here in the far north as whingers, but Derry City's ripping yarns of the past few weeks have gone unnoticed by the Sunday Tribune. Since Eamonn McCann stopped his excellent column, it would be possible to believe we are all like those strange people who travel to England and Scotland to support foreign mercenaries.
I feel entitled to whingef Gerry Downey, 2 De Burgh Terrace, Doire, BT 48 7LQ.
(PS: You do know we are in the LOI, don't you? )
