I READ with interest the article about the "decline" of the Eircom League. It was a well-researched and wellwritten piece that correctly hit on the problems facing the Eircom League clubs as they struggle to survive in a country obsessed with foreign football teams.
One of the issues is that they compete for coverage from the nation's media, and yet in a week that an Eircom League club goes head to head with a team that is a member of the elite G14, you do not give over one column inch to mention it.
Your paper instead has blanket coverage of English teams, including those in lower divisions, and neglects to mention Derry City playing Paris St Germain. Even in the 'Week ahead on TV' section you list Spurs against Sparta Prague and fail to mention any Irish interest in the UEFA Cup.
