RACING: LISTOWEL REPORT ON the anniversary of Frankie Dettori's 'Magnificent Seven' winners in one day at Ascot, Declan McDonogh went some way towards emulating his achievement when notching up his seventh success of the meeting at Listowel yesterday.
McDonogh continues to blaze the trail at the head of the flat jockeys championship, and he moved on to the 77winner mark for the season with a three-length success aboard 5/1 shot Tawaafur for his boss Kevin Prendergast in the Lynch's Bakery Fillies Maiden.
Storm Averted justified favouritism in the Charlie Chute Memorial Handicap by a length and a half in the hands of locally-born Willie Supple to credit his owner/ trainer Niall Nevin with his first flat winner.
Nevin said: "The handicapper put him up 14lb for being second the other day so we had to run him off his mark today."
Fran Berry combined with trainer Tom Hogan to capture the Banna Beach Hotel & Leisure Centre Handicap with Rockie. The 6/1 winner snatched the verdict by a short head from Phoenix Factor, although Hogan's first reaction was that his charge had been beaten.
Rockie carries the colours of Raymond Yeung, and Hogan remarked: "Fran gave him a great ride because he's a horse with a lot of ability, although he doesn't always show it."
NH jockey Paul Carberry was another rider to enjoy a profitable Listowel, and he teamed up with trainer Eamonn Sheehy for their second success of the week through Some Timbering in the Guinness Brewhouse Series Novice Chase.
