Acres with mountain views
Valerie Shanley

THE autumn auction season kicks into action again this week, and for those looking for something special there are some interesting properties coming up.

Cluain Mhuire, a detached home on three levels at Coolagad, Templecarrig Road Upper, in Delgany, Co Wicklow, makes the most of that location with wonderful views over green fields towards the sea and Bray Head in the distance, and all in the shadow of the mountains to the north and west. These views can be enjoyed from the sundrenched patio that forms just a part of the one-acre gardens.

Included within the grounds is a hard tennis court, while there are 1.2 acres of meadow to the rear. The interior doesn't disappoint either, with high vaulted ceilings and dualaspect picture windows being attractive features in many of the reception rooms.

This is a house that will undoubtedly appeal to those looking for plenty of room for a growing family: there are five bedrooms, several living rooms and a sauna, all well laid out in 268sq m (2,900 sq ft) of space.

The entrance to the house is through the large, open-plan hall which also includes a dining area with a door to the side garden. Steps lead up to the living room which has an open fireplace with granite mantel and several windows with sea and mountain views. Both of these rooms have the soaring ceilings already described, as does the family room leading from the inner hallway. This room is also open-plan into a study and both spaces are defined by hardwood flooring.

The kitchen cum breakfast room is equally spacious, fitted with oak units, top of the range integrated appliances, a breakfast bar and sliding doors out on to the sheltered patio. A Stanley range keeps this large room cosy. Adjacent to the kitchen is another living room with timber ceiling and sliding patio doors to a gravelled garden enclosed by shrubs and hedging. Two guest cloakrooms, the utility, and the sauna and shower room complete the accommodation at this level of the house.

Upstairs are the five bedrooms. The master bedroom is en-suite and has the vaulted ceiling similar to those downstairs. There is also a view of the sea. The main bathroom has a power shower and is tiled. Mature trees and an orchard contribute to the tranquillity of the gardens, planted for year-round colour.

Greystones and Delgany are close by, as is the N11, making this a delightful country retreat, yet well within reach of the city.

Price: AMV 2.2m; auction 19 September Agent: Sherry FitzGerald 01-2866630
