FIVEmen have been charged with public order offences following an outbreak of violence before Friday night's FAI Cup clash between Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians. The fighting occurred outside the Hill 16 pub on Dublin's Gardiner Street . . . a popular GAA haunt . . . just after 7.30pm.
According to witnesses, it began when Rovers fans jumped off a bus outside the pub and began throwing bricks, traffic cones and beer kegs at Bohemians supporters.
The clash then spilled out onto the street and some disruption and damage was caused to motorists passing by.
There is a history of animosity between fans of both sides and incidents like the one on Friday are not uncommon.
There are known to be two hooligan factions attached to the clubs, the Bohs Casuals on the Bohemians side, and the Ultras with Shamrock Rovers.
They represent a tiny minority of fans.
Gardai said the five men arrested were released and will soon be appearing in the district court.
