Gardai probe raid on Nenagh golf club following terrifying threat to family
Jennifer Fitzgerald

GARDAI in Nenagh are investigating an incident in which four masked men threatened a family and robbed a safe at the local golf club late on Friday evening. The incident occurred shortly after 11.30pm when the manager of the golf club was confronted at his home by the burglars while his wife and 12-year-old daughter looked on. Armed with pick-axe handles and screwdrivers, the assailants demanded that he return to the club and open the safe, which is believed to have contained a large amount of money.

The four men gathered up the cash and walked out to a large dark getaway car, described as similar in style to a BMW.

Staff who witnessed the robbery could not identify the other raiders, since their faces were covered, but have said the men might be from the Dublin area, as one of the raiders spoke with a Dublin accent. "There is no better description of the other raiders, " said a garda spokesman. No family members or staff were injured in the burglary, he said.

Nobody from Nenagh golf club was available for comment when contacted last night by the Sunday Tribune.

Gardai in Nenagh are appealing to anyone who may have noticed anything unusual in the area last Friday.

Members of the public can ring the Nenagh station at 067 50450 or on the Garda Confidential Line on 1 800 666 111.
