CURRAGH PREVIEW
LOCAL trainer Kevin Prendergast makes the short journey to the Curragh racecourse this afternoon in search of a third success in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes, a race in which he is three-handed with Brazilian Bride, Dimenticata and Miss Beatrix.
In-form stable jockey Declan McDonogh has opted to ride Lady O'Reilly's Brazilian Bride, who finished fourth behind Holy Roman Emperor in the Waterford Wedgewood Phoenix Sprint over this course two weeks ago.
Willie Supple takes the mount on Miss Beatrix, who finished a place in front of Brazilian Bride on that occasion, while stable apprentice Chris Hayes partners Prendergast's Debutante Stakes runner-up Dimenticata.
Brazilian Bride has been trained with this race in mind since her win at Naas earlier in the season, and she is taken to prove superior to her two stable-companions. She has to contend with strong challenges from the likes of the three English raiders Simply Perfect, Silca Chiava and Bicoastal, not to mention Dermot Weld's runaway Galway scorer Supposition and the Aidan O'Brien-trained supplementary entry Diamond Necklace.
The latter is still a maiden, but will be well-fancied to step up on her sixth placing on her Leopardstown debut and give her Ballydoyle trainer his sixth success in the race in as many years. Sue Magnier's daughter of Unbridled was supplemented for the race on Tuesday morning at a cost of 30,000, and connections will be hoping it proves to be money well spent.
Supposition became the first winner Dermot Weld has trained for Khaled Abdullah when skating in by seven lengths at Galway. Prior to that she finished a close second to the well-regarded Duke Of Marmalade on her debut. That amounts to very smart form indeed.
Jim Bolger is another trainer who will be hoping to land the prize for a third time with his Debutante Stakes winner Gaudeamus. The mount of Kevin Manning, she also has a listed win over today's course and distance on Derby weekend to her credit.
Jeremy Noseda's runner Simply Perfect commands respect on the strength of her third placing in the Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot, while Mick Channon's Silca Chiave confirmed her promise at the first time of asking with a recent success at Newbury. Take a chance instead with Brazilian Bride to live up to her name in this wide-open contest of quality fillies.
John Mulhern's Osterhase renews rivalry with last year's winner Benbaun in the Group 3 Nolan & Brophy Auctioneers Flying Five, and he gets the vote to add further to his tally here, despite the fact that Benbaun was re-routed to the Curragh after soft ground forced him to miss his engagement in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York.
Peter Casey has his string firing on all cylinders at present, and Blessyourpinksox can keep up the momentum with success in the listed Dance Design Stakes. Pat Flynn is another with his stable in fine form, and Worldly Wise is a tentative choice to capture the ladbrokes. com EBF Irish Cambridgeshire.
