Take Liberties with a home on Meath Street
Valerie Shanley

RIGHT in the heart of what is considered the real Dublin, this three-bed end-of-terrace in The Liberties, Dublin 8, offers a lot more than its modest red brick exterior might suggest.

While the floor space is a compact 71sq m (760sq ft) the interior of No 1 Meath Terrace doesn't feel cramped, but instead, is bright and roomy with high ceilings and an openplan layout to the kitchen/dining/living area.

This spaciousness is enhanced by the most surprising feature of the property . . . the very large rear garden which has been designed with easy maintenance and outdoor living in mind. A garden of this size (46ft in length) is a joy in any city centre home, and with its surrounding high wall giving great privacy, the gravelled walkways and raised deck ensure this is a very inviting space when the sun shines.

Recent upgrading by the current owner is most evident in the house, using light colours to boost the natural light in all the rooms.

A hint of the vintage of the house is apparent in the entrance hallway which retains dado and picture rail.

To the right is a square -shaped reception room. Straight down the hallway is that very large, open-plan room, which includes a well fitted kitchen which in turn, overlooks, and opens into the garden up the original granite steps. The white laminate kitchen units and natural tiling again enhance the light, sunny atmosphere of the room. A shower room completes the downstairs accommodation.

On the first floor are the three bedrooms: two facing the front of the house, the other to the rear and with a doorway to the shower- room. The shower room is fully tiled.

Outside, a profusion of seasonal flowers and shrubs are currently in bloom in the sheltered rear garden. From the front door, a number of tourists attractions . . . Christchurch, St Patrick's Cathedral and the Guinness Storehouse . . . are just a few steps away, while Grafton Street, and St Stephen's Green are within 15 minutes' walk.

The Luas is also just around the corner.
