PAUL MCSHANE gave himself little chance to impress following his Irish call-up, getting sent off just half an hour into West Brom's Championship clash with Leeds. The defender tangled with Geoff Horsfield in the box after 30 minutes, conceding a penalty.
There was, however, consolation in the result as West Brom went on to a 4-2 win.
Elsewhere in the Championship, Roy Keane's Sunderland held on for a 1-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday.
However, of the Irish hopefuls, only Daryl Murphy started while Liam Miller only saw the final 16 minutes.
Back in the Premiership, two players who have offered to return to the Irish set-up, Lee Carsley and Matt Holland, had very different afternoons. Carsley played 90 minutes in Everton's draw but Matt Holland failed to make an appearance for Charlton.
