O'Brien to win again at Curragh
IRISH PREVIEW Claire Barry

TRAINER Aidan O'Brien travels to the Curragh this afternoon in search of his ninth win in the Juddmonte Beresford Stakes, and it is odds-on that he will maintain his stranglehold on the Group 2 mile event courtesy of Eagle Mountain.

One of two runners in the race for O'Brien, the Rock Of Gibraltar colt was previously successful on testing ground when winning his maiden here in late May . He then went on to run Teofilo to a head in the Futurity Stakes en route to occupying the same spot in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at York.

Eagle Mountain would undoubtedly prefer better ground, but he is still expected to prove superior to the lightly-raced Capital Exposure and Right Or Wrong.

The latter's stable-companion Evening Time created a favourable impression when winning at Fairyhouse last Saturday, and can take a further step up the ladder with success in the listed Flame Of Tara EBF Stakes at the expense of Theann, who will appreciate this drop in class after finishing fifth in the Cheveley Park Stakes at Ascot.

John Mulhern's Osterhase turned in a cracking effort on unsuitably heavy ground at Tipperary last Sunday and will take all the beating in the Hackett's Waterford Testimonial Stakes. Preference, however, is for Ugo Fire, who ran an equally game race in defeat last time and is 7lb better off with the top-weight on this occasion.

Jim Bolger and his stable jockey Kevin Manning are fancied to win with their unbeaten filly Galatee in the Rathbarry Stud's Barathea Finale Stakes, a race in which Scorpio, O'Brien's English St Leger winner of last season, makes his seasonal debut.

Racing also takes place at Limerick, and the feature event here is the Tote Munster National, in which the Kerry National winner Bothar Na gets the vote.

Barrow Drive, who was running a big race until unseating his rider at Listowel in the race won by Davenport Democrat, is another to consider, but that effort was his first since contesting the Thyestes Chase back in January, and he is likely to need another couple of runs to bring him to peak fitness.
