Brookfield combines interior class with country charm
Valerie Shanley

ENTERING Brookfield House, you could be forgiven for thinking you had just stepped into the pages of a glossy interiors magazine spread. This modern, four-bed residence on two acres at Cultromer, near Batterstown, Co Meath, is a fine country home, but with an interior that bucks the traditional trend for stripped pine and floral prints. The open-plan reception rooms are an essay in contemporary styling, all creamy paint colours, dark woods and autumnal hued, soft furnishings complementing brown leather furniture and sleek, glasstopped tables. Light and height throughout all contribute to the airy spaciousness of the interior and this is a notable quality from the start in the main double-height reception hall which soars up to the galleried landing.

Stepping from the hall are the openplan living areas: the drawing room and formal dining room with dark oak floor which runs from the front to back of the house. A range of beech units with granite worktops and state-of-the-art appliances define the working area of the large open-plan kitchen/dining/living room.

The room also has an open fireplace and door to the rear garden. A utility adjacent is fitted in similar style to the kitchen, while doors lead from here to the garage and to the side garden. Completing the ground floor accommodation is a tiled shower room.

A feature oak staircase leads to the gallery landing and on to the main bedroom which is en-suite with a Jacuzzi bath, double shower, twin wash-hand basins and marble floor. The walk-in wardrobe is fitted with generous storage.

There are three further bedrooms, one of which is also en-suite, and all have fitted wardrobes.

Brookfield is a timber frame construction, and comes with under floor heating throughout, and also a central CCTV system. Landscaped gardens surround the property, through which the entrance driveway winds from the double front gates. The Tolka River forms one of the boundaries. To the rear is a railed grass paddock for the family horse or pony.
