Gardai hope CCTV will yield vital clues in case of Meg Walsh
John Burke and Sarah McInerney

GARDAI in Waterford investigating the case of missing woman Meg Walsh are this weekend examining CCTV footage from the city's Dunmore Road, which they hope may yield vital information.

The area was central last week to searches mounted by gardai, the civil defence force and volunteers following information supplied to detectives.

It is believed that this may have been part of the route taken by the 35-year-old woman a fortnight ago, after she left a group of friends at the Woodlands hotel.

Garda superintendent Dave Sheahan, who is leading the investigation, told the Sunday Tribune yesterday that he hoped the CCTV footage would "give a much clearer picture" of events that preceded the disappearance of the mother-of-one. Gardai also expect to obtain forensic results in the coming days from what appeared to be a blood-stained item taken from her abandoned car. The vehicle was found in a nearby car park in the early hours of Wednesday 4 October.

A married woman with a 17year old daughter from a previous relationship, Meg Walsh was last seen at her home in Ballinakill Downs, Waterford on the evening of Sunday, 1 October. She had spent the previous night socialising with family and friends at the Woodlands Hotel. Her mobile phone has not been used and has emitted no signal since her disappearance, nor has her bank account been accessed.
