STATE pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy believes that a recent robbery at her home was a "random attack" and that the burglars did not realise whose house they were breaking into.
Speaking to the Sunday Tribune yesterday, Cassidy said:
"Gardai have carried out extensive enquiries and they have come to the conclusion that it was just one of those random attacks and there was nothing else behind it."
Cassidy was at her north Dublin home with her two grown-up children when the incident occured. As she went out into the back garden to tidy up and close some doors the burglars were forcing her door open.
"When I came in I heard the front door banging and I said to the kids to close it, " she said.
However, after one of her children said that it was just their dad coming home, Cassidy's suspicions were raised as she knew her husband was in Scotland, attending a Celtic football match. "Myself and my son ran to the kitchen and there was a young lad with a hoodie on and he just ran for the door when we got in."
Cassidy chased the youth into the garden but he and his accomplice got away.
"They might have wanted the car keys or something but thankfully they went empty-handed, " she said.
"If he had got a few seconds more he would have had keys to both cars, keys to the house, an iPod and wallets with cash and cards."
Although nothing was taken from Cassidy's home, damage to the front door of her home is still visible.
