Fireworks warning after accident
Conor McMorrow

CHILDREN have been warned about the dangers of Hallowe'en fireworks this weekend after a banger went off in the hand of a Belfast child.

The nine-year-old boy has been treated in hospital after the accident at approximately 6pm on Friday evening. He was injured in Sunnyside Street off the Ormeau Road in the south of the city.

Kenny McMahon from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said the incident was a reminder that children should not be allowed to use fireworks unsupervised.

"We would just appeal to adults to make sure to supervise children when they are actually using these fireworks, " he said. "These fireworks are very dangerous and not a toy and could lead to a child losing an eye or a limb."

The boy was treated at the Royal Victoria Hospital in the west of the city but he has now left and returned home.
