The Tenters a fine place for a family to set up camp
Carita McCullough

NO21 St Thomas Road, The Tenters, Dublin 8, is a family home packed full of period features but with many modern touches for 21st-century living. This three-bed home measures just over 83sq m (897sq ft) and is a beautiful blend of old and new.

Entrance is through the original front door with stained glass inset into the hall where timber flooring leads the way to the rest of the house.

Downstairs are two reception rooms and a kitchen. The living room has the elevated ceilings you'd expect to find in a home of this type with picture rail on the walls. The open fireplace has the original cast-iron surround and tiled inset. Throughout the house, the original sash windows are still in place.

Adjacent to the living room is the dining room with an archway through to the kitchen with original fireplace and timber flooring.

The kitchen has sleek builtin units with stainless steel appliances and mosaic wall tiles.

Upstairs are three bedrooms. Two large doubles each have a working original fireplace and built-in wardrobes.

Like the kitchen, the bathroom has been given a contemporary treatment. A modern chrome pedestal and glass wash-hand bowl sit side by side a roll-top bath.

Outside, the garden is surprisingly large and lush with a heady mix of colourful shrubs, climbing plants and flowers. A split-level deck provides an outdoor entertaining area and at the end of a winding path is a hidden play area with tree house.

Located within walking distance of St Stephens Green and Grafton Street with Camden Street nearby, St Thomas Road is also close to the Luas and several bus routes, providing access to the rest of the city.
