CORK CON'S unbeaten run came to an end as Dungannon picked up their first win of the season at Stevenson Park. Richard McCarter, Andrew Hughes and Robert Conway came up trumps with the touchdowns that helped the Tyrone men to a deserved success.

Daniel Nethery opened the scoring with a Cork Con penalty in the fourth minute, but almost immediately the home side got in for their opening try. James Bates supplied the perfectly-timed pass to send full back McCarter away on the right and his pace brought him over in the corner, with Adam Larkin converting to make it 7-3.

Nethery kicked his second penalty on 17 minutes, but the Dungannon pack began to raise their game, and they were rewarded with a second try in the 23rd minute.

Having survived a sustained period of pressure, they countered at pace, Bates took a quick tap-penalty and it was second row Andrew who sprinted in to score, with Larkin again adding the bonus points.

But Cork regained territorial advantage, and on the stroke of half-time they pulled back a try, Denis Hurley going over in the left corner despite appeals for a knock-on.

Con lost prop Tim Ryan to a yellow card early in the second half, and fell further behind when Larkin landed a penalty. And midway through the half, Dungannon opened out an 11-point lead when winger Conway went over in the right corner for their second try.

McCarter was denied the extras when his conversion kick from the touchline came back off a post, but Dungannon could now sense victory.

Cork did set up a nervous finish when replacement prop Tom Ryan charged over for a try 12 minutes from the end, converted by Richard Lane.

Constitution had their chances, but a well organised defensive effort kept them at bay for a tense final 10 minutes, and Dungannon held out for a welcome first win.
