If you lust after the lifestyle of the 1967 Summer of Love, then there are few finer places in which to indulge your inner hippy than the Inn Above Tide on Sausalito's waterfront. Most of the rooms (26 of them plus three suites) in this threestorey hotel have that essential bit of hippy kit - the hot tub - and all have decks which let guests admire the sweeping views of the bay and the San Francisco skyline. The city itself is a scenic seven-mile drive away, via the Golden Gate Bridge. The hotel is next to the ferry landing, also making it ideal for excursions into San Francisco via the 25minute boat ride.
What's the best thing?
Apart from the views and the private decks with all of the rooms, there's the huge deep-soaking bathtubs and, in some of the rooms, the Jacuzzis for two.
Will it break the bank?
Doubles from 230 per night, including breakfast and an innovative cheese and wine reception every evening.
