Christy finally gives in to Jools
Isabel Hayes

THREE years after he was first invited to perform, Christy Moore has finally agreed to appear on the seminal BBC2 music show Later With Jools Holland.

Following his sell-out performance at Dublin's Point earlier this year with former Moving Hearts bandmate Declan Sinnott, and the release of a new album, Live at the Point 2006, Moore has now decided "the time is right" to appear on the show.

"Jools is a big fan of Christy's and has been asking him to come on the show for at least three years and possibly more, " said a spokeswoman.

"Christy tends to work spontaneously and felt that when the time was right he would take Jools up on the offer. Now he has decided to go for it and will be appearing in a couple of weeks' time."

The hour-long show, which has been a part of BBC2's Friday night line-up since 1992, features live performances from five or six bands or soloists playing for each other and a select audience in a circular studio.

However, what songs Moore will perform on the night remain a mystery.

"Again, the way Christy works is so spontaneous that even he doesn't know what he will perform yet, " said the spokeswoman. "It'll depend on his mood and what he feels is right for the occasion."

Other acts scheduled to appear alongside Moore on Friday 17 November include indie band The Magic Numbers and French-based group Gotan Project.
