Less than two miles from St Stephen's Green, Harold's Cross stretches from the canal to the borders of Terenure. Nearby neighbourhoods within walking distance include Terenure, Kimmage and Rathgar.

Average house prices Small one-bed cottages cost from 380,000; two-up, two-down redbricks from 520,000; two- and three-bed terraces from 600,000; period redbricks from 1m to 1.5m plus.

Type of houses Harold's Cross has a good mix of different house styles including lots of pretty oneand two-bed cottages, small two-bed redbrick terraces from the turn of the 20th century, former local authority houses built in the 1930s and '40s, and large Victorian redbricks. Its closeness to the city centre and the Dublin 6 address make it one of the most popular areas to buy into, but prices here have really shot up as a result, " says Louise Hayes of Mason Estates. "We recently sold a small terraced redbrick in Greenfield Place for over 600,000. Harold's Cross Cottages are very popular, particularly with firsttime buyers, although they have also seen big price increases, and two-beds here start from 480,000. At the upper end of the scale, the large redbricks on Harold's Cross Road and Casimir Road are very sought-after, and you're talking about paying anything from 1m to over 1.5m for these, " adds Hayes.

Estate agents at Douglas Newman Good in Terenure agree that property in Harold's Cross is very popular. They are selling a three-bed semi-detached period property, No 40 Casimir Road, for 1.425m and a four-bed semi-detached, No 12 Casimir Road, for 1.1m.

Transport Within easy walking of the city, Harold's Cross is served by several bus routes including the 16, 16A, 49, 49A, 49X, 54A, and 19A.

Amenities Plenty of local shops, Harold's Cross Park, greyhound racing stadium, Dobbins restaurant at Harold's Cross stadium, and Konkan Indian restaurant near Harold's Cross bridge.

Schools St Clare's primary school, Harold's Cross national school and Gaelscoil Mologa.

Development plans A piece of land near Harold's Cross Bridge is set for development, although its usage hasn't been confirmed yet. Likely uses include a residential development.
