GOLF: EUROPEAN TOUR QUALIFYING SCHOOL IRELAND'S Philip Walton is unhappy about the state of the Old Course at San Roque as he attempts to win back his European Tour card at the Qualifying School finals in Spain.
With torrential rain putting the course out of action until Monday, officials have been forced to play the first two rounds over the New Course at the Cadiz venue with Norway's Eirik Tage Johansen leading by four shots on eight under par after a second round 71.
Making his eighth visit to the Qualifying School, 44year-old Walton admitted that he needs a sub par second round on the New Course today to get back on track after a four over par 76 on Friday left him in 78th place.
The field has been split in two with Waterville's David Higgins, who is nicely place into the vital top 30 after a level par 72, also due to play his second round today.
"Some fairways have hardly any grass on them, especially the 12th and 13th, " said Walton.
The leading 70 and ties after 72 holes will contest the final two rounds on Wednesday and Thursday with the top 30 and ties earning full cards for 2007.
