Disgraced Judge Curtin remains a director of Kerry music school attended by children
Conor McMorrow

DISGRACED Judge Brian Curtin, who resigned last week before an Oireachtas Committee probed allegations regarding child pornography on his computer, is still involved in a music school attended by children.

The Sunday Tribune has learned that Judge Curtin is still registered as a director of the Kerry School of Music in Tralee, even though his computer has been in the possession of the gardai since May 2002.

According to Companies Registration Office records, Curtin was appointed company secretary of the school on 5 April, 2000. There is no record that he has retired from the board of directors. The Kerry School of Music provides music, drama and ballet classes for children in addition to its adult classes.

Several politicians including Sinn Fein TD Martin Ferris for Kerry North and Labour councillor Terry O'Brien called on Curtin to resign as director of the school when the Sunday Tribune first highlighted the issue in May. There was nobody from the Kerry School of Music available for comment this weekend.

Curtin pleaded not guilty to the possession of child pornography when his case opened in the Circuit Court in April 2004. He was later acquitted after it emerged the warrant under which the computer had been seized was out of date. An Oireachtas Committee was investigating Curtin's suitability for office until his resignation last Monday.

It was reported yesterday that Curtin had downloaded vile images of children from a US website. The pictures included images of sexual contact between adults and children and pictures of children in sexual poses. The pictures were reported to be of boys under nine and girls under 12.
