IT WILL be at least two years before women in the west and south of Ireland will have access to the national screening service for breast cancer, BreastCheck. Health Minister Mary Harney said last week that the service would be "rolled out across the country in 2007". When asked when every women in Ireland will have access to BreastCheck services, she responded "it will be another 18 months to two years [from Spring 2007] before all women will have access to these services because of the amount of time it takes to hire staff and develop services."
Currently women in the south and west of the country do not have access to free breast check services.
