Irish golfers will be paying more poll tax to the Golfing Union of Ireland next year and, if all goes well at this week's provincial meeting, Leinster golfers will be paying more than anyone else. The central Union poll tax is going up from 10 to 11.
But the Leinster Branch is seeking an added 1.50 to bring their income per capita from 4.50 to 6 and their overall income from this source from 335,503 to something in the region of 500,000 when one allows also for an expected increase in the number of players involved.
The Branch appears to be in good financial health with accumulated funds at the end of the year of 956,534. So, 'tis as well to keep things that way as there is so much to be done in the promotion of the game.
