TAYLOR CLOSES IN ON A MEDAL IN INDIA

Irish lightweight Katie Taylor is just two fights from a medal after stopping American Caroline Barry on the 15-point rule in the first round of her preliminary round bout at the women's world championships in India. Taylor, ranked number one in the world at lightweight, beat Nashvilleborn Barry 16-1 to cruise into the last 16. The 20-year-old from the St Fergal's club in Bray will now meet Eva Walstrom of Finland, who is ranked at number five in the world, this evening.

Meanwhile, the Irish amateur boxing squad face a tough task in Dundalk tonight after losing out 6-2 to Holland in the first of two internationals at the National Stadium in Dublin on Friday. Both countries meet again this evening.

The Irish squad will undergo at least eight changes for the bouts with Holland introducing at least two replacements.
