Is there a case, even at this late date, for holding a stewards' enquiry into the outcome of the 1957 All Ireland hurling championship?
It is well known that 16 Kilkenny men paraded around Croke Park on final day that year . . . the 16th being the British actor John Gregson, starring in Rooney, a "lm about a hurling dustman. It turns out all 30 players received £5 each . . . a tidy sum back then . . . from the J Arthur Rank organisation for their cooperation. Doesn't that constitute a breach of the Association's rules on amateurism? And to think that Paddy Buggy, the Kilkenny right-half back, went on to become GAA president as well. . .
Bring on the stewards.
